Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) in elderly population. Methods According to 50% cutoff of LVEF value, 324 elderly subjects without structural heart disease using echocardiography were divided into normal (n=194) and low (n=130) LVEF groups. The correlation between LVEF and CHD risk factors including smoking, obesity, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), hypertension and type 2 diabetes were analyzed by Pearson linear correlation and multivariate logistic regression in both groups. Results Pearson linear correlation analysis showed a negative correlation between LVEF and LDL-C level (r=-0.336, P<0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that smoking, obesity and high LDL-C level were significantly correlated with low LVEF (P<0.001 or 0.05). Conclusion Low LVEF is associated with smoking, obesity and elevated LDL-C in the elderly.
